CLUB MEETINGS
March 6
Remember what fun it was when we just starting out as collectors? We all sold our stamps to one another for a nickel or a dime, or just traded our stamps on a one-for-one basis. Unfortunately, we tend to lose that feeling as we march on toward becoming sophisticated philatelists. Talk of relative catalog values, auction realizations and discounts lists to show our impressive knowledge. But wouldn’t it be great, just once in a while, to go back to that simplicity we enjoyed as beginners?
So our program this month will be an old fashioned "cheap night”. Each member or anyone not a member may engage in selling or trading stamps and postcards to each other. The selling price is not necessarily based on catalog value. We are not talking about Zeppelins here, but maybe we are! We all have boxes of stamps, old envelopes, or postcards that we’ve been meaning to do something about.
Here are some simple rules to be followed for Bourse Night:
Be organized. Bring your loose stamps in stock books or on stock sheets, for example, organized by country. Collections in albums may also be sold, but be sure they are priced. Postcards may be grouped by subject matter. Remember to be willing to sell for a very reasonable price. U.S. postage can be sold for less than face value..
Be sure to bring tongs, magnifiers, glassines, blank stock sheets/books and other tools of the trade you might find useful.
For the sellers: tables will be provided. Limit the amount you bring to what will fill a reasonable space.
